Glu Mobile has today announced it will create a new free-to-play mobile game based on the James Bond film franchise. The game, “inspired by the franchise`s rich history, themes, characters, and narratives”, is scheduled for summer 2015.
“Bond offers a deep catalogue of thematic inspiration for gaming. We are honored by the opportunity to be the first to bring such a storied franchise to free-to-play mobile gaming,” said Glu CEO Niccolo de Masi in a statement. “We look forward to delivering a never before seen gameplay experience on mobile for the passionate worldwide community of Bond fans.”
Before you start shaking your martinis, what this “never before seen gameplay experience” will ultimately be remains a mystery for now. Unfortunately, Glu’s formulaic and forgettable RoboCop tie-in (released in January this year) doesn’t set a particularly promising precedent.
MGM partnered with Glu back in July 2013 in a deal that would see Glu develop games based on MGM’s RoboCop and James Bond properties
