Are Mobile-Phones life threatening?

Mobile phone is an inseparable part of our life. We are completely dependent on our mobile phones and everyone has it, even school children. We are pretty sure that most of us are Nomophobiacs at least till some extent. You may have read reports that this tiny, super functional gadget can be life threatening, but is it the truth?
We need to understand that “Cell phones do emit radio signals”, which generate small but significant amounts of electro-magnetic radiation (EMR) enough to damage Health, which is as bad as in several different forms of radiating energy waves including microwaves, infrared light, ultraviolet light, X-rays, gamma rays and even visible light. A cell phone’s transmitter converts your voice into an electrical signal, which it then dispatches as radio frequency energy, another form of electromagnetic radiation.

HTC M8 vs iPhone 5s : Features and specs

HTC's new M8 smartphone, from Verizon Wireless, is available now and eligible for Verizon's buy one get one free deal. Photo shows the HTC M8 beside the smaller iPhone 5.HTC's latest smartphone, the HTC One M8, looks great with its curved metal back in a color resembling pewter. Here's how an HTC M8 demo unit from Verizon stacked up to the iPhone 5 in our hands-on review. The M8 has received a number of serious reviews including one dated April 10 on Time.com that calls M8 the most elegant device on the market right now. These are the differences we noticed.
Display and size: HTC One M8 has a 5-inch screen while the iPhone 5 series offers 4-inch screens. At first glance, it's obvious the M8 is larger with a significantly bigger screen than the iPhones 5, 5s and 5c.
M8 is also noticeably heavier than the iPhones. That heaviness is caused by M8's larger screen and its all-metal shell. iPhone 5s has 1136 by 640 pixels, or 326 pixels per inch, compared to M8's 1080 by 1920 pixels or 441 pixels per inch.

London Book Fair: Video Gamers storm the show

The London Book Fair took place this week - the UK's largest publishing event.
Over the past decade the presence of digital publishing has been increasingly felt there - but this year another milestone was reached. Video gamers were given their own pavilion, another sign of barriers breaking down in the digital world.
BBC News went to meet the new intruders, speaking to Ian Livingstone, co-founder of Games Workshop and one of the authors of the 1980s publishing phenomenon, the Fighting Fantasy series; digital developer Rebecca Winch of the The Project Factory, who made the official Sherlock Holmes app, 'Sherlock: The Network'; and Kate Ho, managing director of Interface3, who make interactive, educational games for children for mobile platforms.

Ethical gaming: can video games be a force for good?

MinecraftA decade ago Asi Burak developed a video game designed to encourage opposing parties in the Israel-Palestine dispute over land to better understand – even empathise – with each other's point of view. That conflict may be no closer to a resolution, but the concept that interactive games can be used for more than mere entertainment, even as a tool for positive change, is looking like the next big thing in online gaming.

Still No Must-Have Video Games On Xbox One And PS4

Titanfall_FTF_1920x1080_0Something is missing from the current generation of video game consoles: essential video games that nobody ought live without.
At launch, the two new major video game consoles released with a number of exclusive titles, but none of these were really system sellers. Dead Rising 3 was perhaps the most fun of the bunch (in this reviewer’s humblest of opinions) but other titles on the Xbox One, like Ryse: Son of Rome, left much to be desired.

The latest must be the greatest in sports video games

Ask a fan for his favorite sports video game and you'll rarely get a current one. You may not even get one for a console still in production. Warhorses like NHL '94, Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball and the venerated NFL 2K5 come up a lot. Among mine are NCAA Football 2004, MVP Baseball 2005 and College Hoops 2K8, and none of those series even exist anymore.
1383179298-mediaNostalgia may have a lot to do with it. In present day, however, there still is the deep, demanding expectation that the latest edition be better than anything preceding it, if not everything ever attempted in that sport before. One might think an audience that cherishes old and long-since outdated titles might be more forgiving if the latest version of FIFA or NBA 2K isn't as compelling as a landmark entry earlier in the series.

GameSpot's Next Big Game series takes on Sid Meier's Beyond Earth

The Civilization series holds a special significance to many of us on the GameSpot staff, past and present. Some of my own fondest gaming memories involved Civilization II and not studying for an AP US History exam, though in my defense, it was a custom US Civil War campaign. That's still studying, right?
At any rate, Civilization has grown to be one of most beloved and enduring franchises in PC gaming, so naturally, we didn’t hesitate at the opportunity to produce our second Next Big Game feature around Firaxis' latest PC-exclusive project--Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth.

Large GM, Toyota recalls show value of caution

Toyota issued a massive recall this week, taking a cautious approach that likely stems in part from its recent fines and lawsuits over previous sudden acceleration issues. The recent spate of large-scale recalls by GM and now Toyota — totalling nine million cars worldwide — suggest automakers are becoming much more concerned about the potentially much higher financial burden of lawsuits and regulatory fines.
"Companies have become extremely cautious" when it comes to recalls, says Dennis DesRosiers, founder of consulting and market research company DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.

FTC Gives The Go-Ahead To Facebook Inc (FB), WhatsApp Merger

Earlier this week, word spread that a "vast number" of the servers on the Web had been compromised by a bug called "Heartbleed" — and that it may have gone undiscovered for more than two years; and that "while it's conceivable that the flaw was never discovered by hackers, it's nearly impossible to tell."
Here's what you need to know about the Heartbleed bug.
(The New Yorker has an even more detailed look at the why/how of the bug, if you have the time.)

Facebook leading women to eating disorders!

Are you hooked all the time to Facebook in anticipation of another 'like'? Stop this habit as increased time on Facebook could lead women to negative body images - and possibly eating disorders later.
In a first study to link time spent on Facebook to poor body image, researchers found that more time on Facebook could lead to more negative feelings and more comparisons to bodies of friends.
Health professionals who work in the area of eating disorders and their prevention now have clear evidence of how social media relates to college women's body image and eating disorders.
"While time spent on Facebook had no relation to eating disorders, it did predict worse body image among participants," said Petya Eckler from Glasgow-based University of Strathclyde. To understand this, the researchers surveyed 881 college women about their Facebook use, eating and exercise habits and body image.
They were able to predict how often women felt negatively about their own bodies after looking at someone else's photos or posts, and how often women compared their own bodies to those of their friends."The findings also showed that more time spent on Facebook was associated with more negative feelings and more comparisons to the bodies of friends," co-author Yusuf Kalyango Jr from Ohio University added.
They also found that for women who want to lose weight, more time on Facebook led to more attention being paid to physical appearance.
This included attention to one's body and clothing. Poor body image can gradually lead to developing an unhealthy relationship with food. The attention to physical attributes may be even more dangerous on social media than on traditional media because participants in social media are people we know, researchers cautioned.
The team is scheduled to present its findings at the 64th Annual Conference of the International Communication Association in Seattle, Washington.

Facebook's latest government report reveals which countries censor its News Feed

Facebook today released its second global government transparency report, covering the period between July and December of last year. Apart from the regular numbers pertaining to government requests for user data, the social network is now — for the first time — revealing how often countries have restricted or had content removed from the site "on the grounds that it violates local law." India easily ranks as the worst offender here, with 4,765 content restrictions. Facebook says most of those related to laws "prohibiting criticism of a religion or the state." And India is no small market for Facebook. The country recently reached 100 million monthly active users.
