Honda Mobilio production kickstarts in June; might be made in Greater Noida

The upcoming Honda Mobilio is slated for a launch this year by July and was supposed to be made at the company’s new plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan. However, a report by a website reads production of the Mobilio will begin June onwards at the Japanese car major’s existing plant in Greater Noida.

Earlier it was rumoured the Tapukara plant will make vehicles based on the Brio platform but now, the upcoming Jazz might be made at the facility June onwards.

Phase I of the production at the Tapukara plant commenced on February 24, 2014.The plant spread over 450 acres has an integrated manufacturing unit including all functions of Forging, Press Shop, Powertrain shop, Weld shop, Paint shop, Plastic Moulding, Engine assembly, Frame assembly and Engine Testing facility. Honda’s small capacity diesel engines are also made at the plant.

If this rumour has to be true, then Honda could either be looking at moving the production of the City to Tapukara alongside the Jazz and make the Brio-based vehicles the Mobilio and the Amaze in Greater Noida. The production capacity of the Greater Noida plant is 1,20,000 units, and with the City selling close to 8,000 units, the plant is almost running full capacity. The addition of the Mobilio will need Honda to invest more to increase production at the plant or run additional shifts, which may be problematic for a company having two manufacturing plants in India.
